Sr Mainframe Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr Mainframe Developer based in India.

This role focuses on developing and supporting critical mainframe applications within a healthcare claims environment.
You will translate business requirements into scalable, efficient, and compliant technical solutions using established mainframe technologies.
The position covers the full application lifecycle, including design, development, testing, debugging, deployment, and production support.
You will work across COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and MQ while following established coding standards and engineering practices.
The role also involves troubleshooting complex production issues, optimizing application performance, and supporting release activities.
You will collaborate with business stakeholders, QA, project management, support teams, and distributed development teams.
With 10+ years of experience, you will also provide technical guidance and mentoring while contributing effectively in an Agile environment.

• Develop and implement technical solutions for healthcare claims applications by translating business requirements into scalable, efficient, and compliant mainframe systems.
• Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and MQ.
• Follow established coding standards, technical guidelines, and development best practices throughout the application lifecycle.
• Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, project managers, and support teams to deliver high-quality solutions and support successful project execution.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to offshore development team members and coordinate activities across distributed teams.
• Act as a key technical contact for complex issues and support effective resolution of application and production challenges.
• Troubleshoot production issues, analyze root causes, and optimize application performance.
• Conduct code reviews and support System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), production deployments, and post-implementation activities.
• Manage and support code migration and release processes, including package creation, promotion across Development, Test, QA, and Production environments, post-deployment validation, and backout procedures.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of professional experience in mainframe application development.
• Strong hands-on experience with COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and MQ; COBOL, DB2, MQ, and CICS are mandatory.
• Experience with healthcare claims adjudication processes and a strong understanding of related business workflows and operations.
• Solid knowledge of code migration, release management, deployment, validation, and backout processes across multiple environments.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex technical and production support issues.
• Strong understanding of application development and maintenance within enterprise mainframe environments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with business stakeholders and cross-functional and offshore teams.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
• Ability to provide technical guidance and mentoring while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.
• Consultative approach with the ability to understand business needs and translate them into effective technical solutions.
