Senior PCB Layout Engineer

Your Role:

As a Senior PCB Layout Engineer, you will focus on producing in house PCB layouts for New Product Development while supporting the hardware team with layout changes across existing product ranges. Reporting to the Head of Product Realisation, you will create high quality, cost effective and reliable multi-layer PCB designs, covering the process from schematic capture through to fabrication in line with IPC standards, DFM principles and ISO regulatory requirements. In this senior role, you will create, influence and steer the design process while taking a leading hand in defining the layout function. You will lead by example, collaborating closely with hardware engineers to produce the physical design of complex, high density and mixed signal printed circuit boards using Cadence Allegro.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Leading by example in PCB design, collaborating with hardware engineers to produce physical designs for complex, high density and mixed signal boards using Cadence Allegro.
• Routing highly sensitive analogue front-end circuits, such as amplifiers and ADCs, while maintaining strict isolation from noisy high speed digital buses including USB 3.0, Type C, DDR and FPGA interfaces.
• Applying advanced impedance control, length matching and differential pair routing techniques while optimising power delivery networks (PDN) for low noise performance critical to test equipment.
• Creating and maintaining robust footprint libraries and 3D STEP models in accordance with IPC standards.
• Ensuring all designs meet strict Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Test (DFT) requirements while collaborating with bare board fabricators and contract manufacturers to resolve technical queries.
• Implementing layout techniques to ensure oscilloscopes pass immunity testing based on your technical experience.
• Guiding and reviewing the work of junior engineers, establishing layout best practices and standard operating procedures for the hardware team.
• Ensuring Health and Safety guidelines as well as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 procedures are adhered to at all times.

What You’ll Need:

• An HND, HNC or higher qualification in Electronic Engineering (or ONC with equivalent practical experience) or equivalent industry experience.
• Demonstrable experience in multi-layer, high speed, mixed signal and RF PCB design for New Product Development.
• Strong familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 procedures and quality control workflows.
• Proven ability to participate in design reviews, estimate task timescales and provide technical support across departments.
• Excellent attention to detail, a focus on finishing projects to a high quality and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
