Senior Materials Program Manager

WHOOP is hiring a Senior Materials Program Manager to define and drive material strategy and readiness for our most critical and complex hardware products and programs. In this role, you will serve as a strategic partner across Product, Engineering, Planning, Global Supply Management, Operations, Finance, and Contract Manufacturing, connecting product roadmaps and demand with component supply, BOM risk, inventory strategy, and manufacturing readiness. You will anticipate material and supply risks, lead complex cross-functional decisions, and translate supply chain complexity into clear trade-offs and recommendations that enable successful product launches, supply continuity, and scalable growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Own material strategy and readiness for critical products and programs across NPI, ramp, mass production, product transitions, and end-of-life, proactively identifying material constraints and driving cross-functional mitigation before they impact builds or production.
Develop material buffer and inventory strategies that balance supply continuity, demand flexibility, working capital, and excess and obsolete (E&O) exposure. Establish risk-based recommendations for safety stock, risk buys, and other supply-protection mechanisms based on component criticality, lead times, supply concentration, demand variability, lifecycle, and recovery time.
Develop a deep understanding of product BOMs and associated supply dependencies, identifying systemic risks such as single-source exposure, long lead times, capacity constraints, qualification gaps, and upstream dependencies. Partner with Global Supply Management, Engineering, and Product to develop alternate-source, qualification, capacity, and supply-protection strategies.
Lead material strategy for critical new product introductions and complex supply constraints, engaging early in product development to influence BOM, qualification, and supply decisions. Drive allocation and recovery strategies by integrating supplier availability, product demand, inventory, program priorities, and business impact into clear recommendations for cross-functional and senior leadership.
Own strategic visibility into inventory, material liability, and E&O exposure across critical programs, proactively influencing product and operational decisions to reduce risk. Partner with Contract Manufacturers to strengthen material planning, clear-to-build (CTB), buffer management, shortage management, inventory visibility, escalation, and phase-in/phase-out execution.
Establish scalable operating mechanisms, metrics, analytics, and processes for material health, CTB, buffer performance, supply risk, inventory, and E&O. Serve as a strategic materials leader across functions, using data to anticipate risk, drive complex decisions, communicate trade-offs to senior leadership, and mentor other Materials Program Managers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, Operations, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
10+ years of progressive experience in materials management, supply chain, planning, program management, manufacturing operations, or a related discipline within a hardware environment, with experience supporting complex products through NPI, ramp, and mass production.
Deep understanding of BOM management, CTB, inventory and buffer strategy, supply-demand management, allocation, material liability, and global component supply chains; experience with consumer electronics, wearables, or other high-volume hardware products is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve complex material and supply challenges, including developing mitigation strategies for constraints, allocation decisions, inventory exposure, product transitions, and supply continuity.
Experience partnering with Contract Manufacturers and global suppliers, with the ability to influence cross-functional decisions across Product, Engineering, Global Supply Management, Planning, Operations, and Finance.
Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex supply chain data into clear scenarios, business impacts, trade-offs, and recommendations for senior leadership.
Ability to operate independently, lead through ambiguity, mentor others, and move effectively between long-term strategy and immediate execution priorities in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Strong commitment to embracing and leveraging AI tools in day-to-day tasks, ensuring AI-assisted work aligns with the same high-quality standards as personal contributions.
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $150,000.00 - $195,000.00 Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within each range, individual pay is based on factors such as job-related skills, experience, performance, and relevant education or training.
In addition to the base salary, the successful candidate will also receive benefits and a generous equity package. These ranges may be modified in the future to reflect evolving market conditions and organizational needs. While most offers will typically fall toward the starting point of the range, total compensation will depend on the candidate’s specific qualifications, expertise, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
