Senior II Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior II Software Engineer based in Canada.

As a Senior II Software Engineer, you will help build and scale the infrastructure that enables engineering teams to develop and test cloud products efficiently. You’ll work across backend services, automation, virtualized development environments, and physical hardware management. The role combines software engineering with cloud infrastructure, reliability, and developer productivity. You’ll collaborate closely with Development and SRE teams in a global environment. Your work will improve the speed, scalability, reliability, and confidence of software delivery across the organization. You’ll also have opportunities to provide technical leadership and influence engineering practices.

• Enhance backend applications that manage reservations and allocation of physical hardware used by engineering teams for cloud product testing.
• Develop and maintain software services that automate the creation and management of testing environments supporting numerous services and engineering teams.
• Contribute to the development of scalable virtual machine-based environments that provide reliable and efficient development capabilities for engineers.
• Identify bottlenecks across development and deployment workflows, then design and implement solutions that improve system reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Provide technical guidance to other engineers by recommending improvements to coding standards, software architecture, design patterns, and engineering practices.
• Build reporting and monitoring tools that provide visibility into capacity utilization across virtual machines and physical infrastructure.
• Collaborate with globally distributed engineering and SRE teams to deliver solutions that accelerate development cycles and increase confidence in product releases.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, combined with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong experience with Python for building robust backend services, APIs, scalable platform automation, and command-line interfaces.
• Proven experience designing and developing resilient test automation frameworks for cloud infrastructure and complex distributed environments.
• Deep understanding of microservices architectures, cloud networking, and relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Hands-on proficiency with containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with infrastructure automation and observability tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and Grafana.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify infrastructure bottlenecks and translate them into practical engineering improvements.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, guide, or provide technical leadership to junior and mid-level engineers.
• Comfortable collaborating across distributed, multidisciplinary teams and communicating technical concepts clearly.
