The Senior Cloud Network Engineer designs, engineers, and continuously improves the cloud and hybrid network architecture that connects Atlas Air’s global operations. This is a hands-on senior role focused on AWS networking, hybrid connectivity, and Zero Trust segmentation for a business that depends on secure, resilient, high-performance connectivity across approximately 150 locations worldwide.
The engineer owns cloud network architecture and automation outcomes—not manual, ticket-driven changes—partnering with cloud architects, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to build scalable, secure, and cost-effective network solutions. The role serves as the subject matter expert and senior escalation point for complex routing, connectivity, and network security challenges.

Major Job Accountabilities (in priority order)
Cloud Network Architecture & Engineering
- Design and engineer AWS network architectures supporting global operations, including VPC design, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, Route 53, and load balancing.
- Engineer hybrid connectivity between AWS and corporate locations, including VPN, SD-WAN, and Direct Connect integration.
- Design and support multi-region disaster recovery networking strategies for high availability and resiliency.
- Evaluate emerging networking technologies and recommend improvements to architecture, performance, and cost.
Network Security & Segmentation
- Implement and maintain cloud network security controls, segmentation, and policies aligned to Zero Trust principles.
- Partner with cybersecurity teams on cloud segmentation, micro-segmentation, and secure connectivity initiatives.
- Support audit, compliance, and vulnerability remediation efforts related to network infrastructure.
Automation & Infrastructure as Code
- Automate network provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and Git-based CI/CD workflows.
- Develop network automation and tooling using Python, PowerShell, or similar languages to reduce manual effort and improve consistency.
Operational Excellence & Support
- Lead troubleshooting of complex routing, BGP, DNS, and connectivity incidents as a senior escalation point.
- Implement monitoring and observability to proactively detect and resolve network performance and reliability issues.
- Optimize network performance, reliability, and cost across cloud and hybrid environments.
Collaboration, Documentation & Delivery
- Collaborate with architecture, infrastructure, and application teams to align network design with business objectives.
- Champion high-quality documentation of network architectures, designs, and runbooks that yield reproducible results.
- Lead knowledge-transfer activities and mentor junior engineers.
- Deliver assigned projects on time, within scope, and within budget, adhering to change control standards and coordinating internal and vendor resources.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering, including 3+ years designing and supporting AWS cloud network architectures.
- Proven expertise in AWS networking services (VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, Route 53, load balancing) delivering highly available, secure, and scalable solutions.
- Strong command of core networking concepts, including WAN, BGP, routing, VPNs, DNS, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and Git-based CI/CD for network automation.
- Experience designing network segmentation aligned to Zero Trust principles.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Detail-oriented and customer-focused, with a strong sense of ownership, initiative, and a track record of delivering results.
Desired Qualifications
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional (or equivalent).
- HashiCorp Terraform Associate certification.
- Experience with SD-WAN, firewalls, and cloud-native security tooling.
- In-depth experience with AWS services such as IAM, EC2, VPC, ECS/EKS, and Migration Services.
- Experience with modern DevOps practices and scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, or similar).
- Experience in aviation, transportation, logistics, or other regulated industries.
Special Demands
This position may require travel on an as-needed basis to domestic and international company locations, data centers, and training events. The role participates in an on-call rotation and may be required to respond to major incidents outside of standard business hours.
