Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) - Fairfield Animal Hospital
$27–34 CAD/hr based on experience, with premiums for evening, weekend and overnight shifts
Full-time and part-time opportunities in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada
Schedule: 4 on, 4 off rotation, including evenings, weekends, and rotating overnights (typically one month per year). Open to candidates interested in overnights only. Full-time and part-time positions considered based on staffing needs.

Welcome to Fairfield Animal Hospital, a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year animal emergency hospital located in Kelowna, BC - right in the heart of the Okanagan, a year-round outdoor enthusiast’s paradise.
Everything we do here is emergency medicine. There are no routine GP appointments. Every shift is built around triage, diagnostics, patient care, decision-making, critical thinking, and a whole lot of teamwork.
Our RVTs work side-by-side with our emergency DVMs to provide patient care year-round. You aren’t simply completing tasks or handing patients off — you are an integral part of the case from start to finish.

With limited specialty services available within the Okanagan Valley, our ER DVMs and RVTs have the opportunity to work at the top of their training and scope and truly follow cases through their entire hospital journey.
Fairfield sees 300+ cases every week, ranging from urgent presentations to true emergencies, including toxicities, HBCs, major trauma, animal attacks, rattlesnake bites, respiratory emergencies, GDV, and everything in between.
Our RVTs are involved throughout the entire process - from triage and initial assessment to patient care, diagnostics, anesthesia monitoring, treatment, recovery, discharge, and everything in between.
You’ll see cases you may never encounter in a GP setting. You’ll make decisions, build your skills, support your DVMs and teammates, and have the opportunity to genuinely make a difference for patients and their families.
And tomorrow? It could be completely different.
That’s the point.

In your day-to-day, you will:
- Care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery
- Partner with the veterinarian before, during, and after surgery
- Prepare and administer medications
- Provide nursing care and monitoring for emergency and critical care patients
- Perform ongoing triage assessment and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Produce diagnostic radiographs and CT scans, collect samples, and perform laboratory tests
- Provide wound and bandage care
- Manage blood transfusions
- Counsel clients on animal health care
- Help mentor visiting practicum students and peers
- Work closely with veterinarians, technologists, and support teams
- Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture
- Registration as a Veterinary Technologist
- A passion for emergency and critical care medicine for small animals
- The ability to recognize and manage multiple priorities, including ongoing triage assessment
- Commitment to maintaining professional registration and continuing education
- Strong team skills with excellent oral and written communication
- Accuracy, organization, flexibility, and initiative
- The physical ability to meet the demands of the role: standing for extended periods, bending, crouching, and lifting
