Rangeline is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Drafter to support the design and fabrication of metal parts, pipeline components, equipment, and assemblies used throughout the water and wastewater industry.
This position will create and revise detailed drawings used by our fabrication, production, engineering, and field operations teams. The Mechanical Drafter will work closely with engineers, project managers, shop personnel, and field personnel to ensure drawings are accurate, practical, and ready for manufacturing and field applications.

The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of mechanical drafting fundamentals, is comfortable working in CAD software, and is interested in developing hands-on knowledge of metal fabrication, pipeline systems, and water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Prepare 2D drawings and 3D models of reinforcement components, pressure-containing assemblies, and other fabricated products used in water and wastewater systems with accurate dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, weld requirements, and other Rangeline Standards of Manufacturing and Practices.
- Create and revise drawings based on sketches, field measurements, engineering direction, customer specifications, and project requirements.
- Prepare bills of materials, cut lists, weldment lists, and part lists as required.
- Apply basic dimensioning, tolerancing, drafting, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles to drawings.
- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, manufacturability, fit-up, and alignment with project requirements before release.
- Assist with field measurements and the verification of existing piping, components, equipment, and site conditions when required.
- Develop a working knowledge of water and wastewater piping systems, pressure-rated components, fabrication requirements, and applicable industry standards.
- Perform other drafting and design-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical certificate, or coursework in Mechanical Drafting, CAD, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Basic proficiency with CAD software, with experience in both 2D drafting and 3D modeling.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, fabrication, assembly, and pipeline drawings.
- Basic understanding of dimensions, tolerances, scales, weld symbols, and mechanical drawing conventions.
- Familiarity with materials commonly used in fabrication, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum and metal fabrication processes such as cutting, bending, rolling, welding, machining, and assembly is preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn fabrication methods, industry requirements, company standards, and new software or drafting techniques.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with SolidWorks, DraftSight, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar CAD software.
- Familiarity with sheet metal, structural components, piping components, and weldment design.
- Understanding basic GD&T principles, weld symbols, and fabrication tolerances.
- Ability to take field or shop measurements and translate sketches of existing parts or piping configurations into accurate CAD drawings.
- Familiarity with CNC cutting, press brake forming, plate rolling, welding, machining, or other fabrication processes.
- Familiarity with various water/wastewater pipe types, sizes, and applicable fittings.
- Exposure to waterworks products, municipal water systems, wastewater systems, industrial piping, pipeline repair, hot tapping, or line stopping is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with applicable standards and specifications, including AWWA, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, or customer-specific requirements, is a plus.
Work Environment
This position will primarily involve computer-based drafting and design work but will require regular interaction with other engineering, fabrication, quality, and field operations personnel.
The Mechanical Drafter may occasionally enter fabrication areas to take measurements, inspect fabricated components, verify drawing details, observe manufacturing processes, or work directly with shop personnel to resolve fabrication questions.
The position may also require occasional visits to project or customer locations to verify piping dimensions, equipment configurations, or existing field conditions. Appropriate personal protective equipment and compliance with all Rangeline and customer safety requirements will be required when entering shop or field environments.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Mechanical Drafter will produce clear, accurate, and fabrication-ready drawings that support the safe and reliable manufacture of products used in water and wastewater systems.
The individual will respond well to feedback, maintain accurate drawing and revision records, develop a strong understanding of Rangeline's products and manufacturing processes, and steadily become capable of completing drafting assignments with greater accuracy and independence.
Success in this role also includes developing practical knowledge of pipeline systems, pressure-rated components, fabrication methods, and the needs of Rangeline's customers, shop personnel, and field operations teams.
