Position Overview
The Operations Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of facility operations, safety, maintenance, quality, food safety, staffing, grain inventory management, and financial performance at our Hensall, Ontario food-grade grain processing facility.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a highly engaged manager who leads by example, develops employees, drives a strong safety culture, and continuously challenges the status quo to improve operational efficiency, product quality, and profitability. The successful candidate will build strong relationships with employees, customers, producers, and business partners while ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory and food safety requirements.
The Operations Manager is expected to develop a deep understanding of all facility functions, make informed day-to-day operational decisions, anticipate business needs, and create an environment where employees take pride in their work, grow professionally, and remain committed to operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Culture
- Lead and actively promote a world-class safety culture where safety is integrated into every task and decision.
- Conduct regular facility inspections, identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and ensure effective risk controls are in place.
- Lead engaging toolbox discussions and safety meetings that clearly communicate expectations, encourage participation, and reinforce accountability.
- Ensure all employees receive appropriate safety training and fully understand safe work practices and company expectations.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and exposures, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Serve as a visible safety leader through daily interaction with employees and consistent field presence.
Operational Leadership
- Manage daily facility operations, maintenance activities, grain handling systems, processing equipment, and general facility appearance.
- Develop thorough knowledge of all positions within the facility and provide leadership, coaching, and support across all functions.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying inefficiencies, eliminating waste, improving processes, and challenging traditional methods.
- Monitor multiple shifts and weekend operations as required to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent execution of work.
- Ensure production schedules, customer commitments, inventory requirements, and operational resources are aligned and communicated effectively.
Grain Quality & Inventory Management
- Maintain grain quality through effective use of segregation, aeration, drying, monitoring, and handling practices.
- Manage inventory movement strategies to minimize quality degradation and optimize storage capacity.
- Conduct and report monthly inventory reconciliations while maintaining high inventory accuracy.
- Collaborate closely with Origination and Product Commercial Management teams to evaluate inventory positions, customer requirements, and operational priorities.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- 5-7 years’ relevant experience required
