As a Fractional CFO at HTM, you'll serve as the financial partner to approximately 30 growing small law firms, helping owners understand their numbers, improve cash flow and profitability, and build stronger businesses.

This is a full-time W-2 executive position, not a 1099 consulting opportunity or independent fractional practice — and it's built for someone who already thinks like a fractional CFO, not someone looking to replicate a large-company VP of Finance salary.

Is This Role Right for You?
This role is ideal for finance leaders currently earning in the $100K–$150K base salary range who want the variety and strategic depth of fractional CFO work without the overhead, risk, or client-hunting of running their own practice.
It is not a lateral move for finance leaders already earning $160K+ in base salary — the compensation structure here won't feel competitive to you, even if the work itself would appeal to you.
What You'll Do
This isn't a 'close the books and explain the report' CFO role. You'll help business owners use their financial information to make better business decisions.
You'll:
● Serve as the financial leader for approximately 30 client businesses
● Analyze financial statements and identify opportunities for growth and profitability
● Build forecasts, budgets, cash-flow strategies, and KPI dashboards
● Help owners improve pricing, margins, cash flow, and profitability
● Partner directly with business owners on growth and strategic decisions
● Hold owners accountable to their financial goals and commitments
● Help businesses become more financially disciplined and less reactive
● Build trusted, long-term relationships with business owners

What We're Looking For
We're looking for a strategic finance leader, not someone whose career has been primarily focused on accounting operations — and not someone accustomed to the compensation scale of a large single-company VP of Finance seat.
You should have:
● 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience
● Significant experience working with small to mid-sized businesses
● Experience advising founders, owners, or senior leadership teams
● Experience managing multiple clients, companies, or business relationships simultaneously
● Strong financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning skills
● The ability to take financial data and turn it into clear business recommendations
● A track record of helping businesses improve profitability, cash flow, or scale
Experience as a CFO, Fractional CFO, Outsourced CFO, Virtual CFO, Business Advisor, or similar financial leadership role is highly relevant. Experience with service-based businesses is a plus. You do not need law firm experience — we'll teach you what you need to know about the legal industry.
Who This Role Probably Isn't For
This position may not be the right fit if:
● Your background is primarily bookkeeping or accounting operations
● You've held controller-only responsibilities, closing the books without strategic ownership
● Your experience is large-enterprise/corporate finance without meaningful small-business experience
● You've worked with only one internal company rather than advising multiple businesses at once
● You're currently earning $160K+ base salary — this role's compensation won't be a lateral or upward move for you, even if the day-to-day work is a strong match
● You're anchored to going deep in a single organization's long-range strategy rather than context-switching across a portfolio of 30 client relationships

We're looking for someone who can sit across the table from a business owner and say: “Here's what your numbers are telling us, here's what I recommend, and here's what we're going to do about it.”
