Environmental & Regulatory Attorney

Join Our Team as an Environmental & Regulatory Attorney at Axiom

Location: On-site in Houston, TX 4 DPW

We are seeking a Environmental & Regulatory Attorney to support our client, a large energy company. In this role, you will provide environmental and regulatory legal advice and support related primarily to refining operations, with some midstream matters. You will counsel business stakeholders on environmental compliance, regulatory requirements, governmental agency matters, and related legal issues.

Responsibilities:

• Providing day-to-day environmental and regulatory advice, compliance counseling, and support with agency oversight and enforcement matters.
• Conducting legal research on federal and state environmental and regulatory requirements, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, CERCLA/Superfund, EPCRA, NEPA, TSCA, RCRA, OSHA, and PHMSA.
• Investigating environmental and regulatory matters and preparing responses to governmental agencies, including matters involving PSM, RMP, and fuels or renewable fuels requirements.
• Supporting environmental due diligence, corporate and commercial transactions, SEC legal proceedings reporting, and RCRA/UST financial assurance filings.
• Staying current on environmental and regulatory developments, case law, enforcement activity, and industry practices.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 8 years of environmental and regulatory law experience, including experience supporting energy, refining, midstream, downstream, oil and gas, petrochemical, or similar industries.
• Experience providing compliance counseling and advising business clients on environmental and regulatory matters.
• Experience with governmental agency interactions, enforcement resolution, environmental due diligence, and corporate or commercial transactions.
• Working knowledge of applicable federal and state environmental and regulatory requirements, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, CERCLA/Superfund, EPCRA, NEPA, TSCA, RCRA, OSHA, PHMSA, and related fuels or renewable fuels requirements.
• J.D. from an American Bar Association-accredited law school and an active license in good standing to practice law in Texas or another U.S. state.

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with air emissions, industrial and hazardous waste, water quality, wetlands, endangered species, contaminated properties, PSM, RMP, and related reporting or registration matters.
• Experience supporting refining and/or midstream operations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, document comparison software, and responsible use of AI-enabled legal technologies.

Compensation:

The estimated total compensation for full-time Axiom attorney roles is $104,500-325,000 per year and for non-attorney roles is $71,250-309,750 per year. Compensation decisions are based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience, skills, certifications, location, and business needs.
