Contract Staff Front End Engineer (Web Conference/Screen Sharing)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Contract Staff Front End Engineer (Web Conference/Screen Sharing) based in Canada.

This is a fixed-term opportunity to help deliver improvements to a widely used browser’s screen, window, and tab sharing experience.
You’ll work within a distributed Web Conferencing team focused on media capture and sharing for modern video calls.
The role combines hands-on front-end development with close collaboration across UX, QA, and engineering.
You’ll turn approved designs into accessible, tested, and localizable browser interfaces.
You’ll also help resolve edge cases, support partner testing, and ensure features are production-ready.
The environment is open-source, highly collaborative, and operates across a large, mature codebase.
It’s well suited to an experienced front-end engineer who can work independently and communicate effectively across time zones.

• Implement approved UX designs for screen, window, and tab sharing experiences and take features through testing and release.

• Build robust browser UI that meets high standards for accessibility, localization, maintainability, and automated testing.

• Collaborate with UX designers to identify and resolve scenarios that are not fully addressed by the original designs.

• Partner with QA to validate functionality, investigate issues, and ensure a reliable user experience across supported environments.

• Support testing with major web conferencing platforms and help validate real-world sharing workflows.

• Contribute code through public code review and follow established open-source development practices.

• Work effectively within a large, mature codebase, quickly understanding existing architecture and conventions.

• Communicate progress, technical considerations, and implementation decisions clearly in a distributed, asynchronous environment.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional experience building production user interfaces using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

• Demonstrated ability to implement established designs accurately while applying sound judgment when designs do not account for specific user or technical scenarios.

• Experience becoming productive quickly in a large and mature codebase, particularly when working with software you did not originally develop.

• Strong experience writing and maintaining automated tests for user interfaces.

• Excellent asynchronous written communication skills and comfort collaborating with teammates across multiple time zones.

• Ability to work effectively in a public development environment involving open issue tracking and code review.

• Experience contributing to Firefox or another open-source browser is an asset.

• Familiarity with browser front-end architecture, including custom elements, XUL, Fluent localization, or related technologies, is a plus.

• Knowledge of WebRTC, getDisplayMedia, or browser-based media and screen-sharing technologies is advantageous.

• Experience with accessibility for modal dialogs, list navigation, and other interactive browser interfaces is valuable.

• Familiarity with browser testing frameworks such as browser-chrome or mochitest is a plus.

• Experience using AI tools effectively in front-end development is considered an advantage.
