Business Development Director II - Early Phase

This role drives growth by leading complex, high-value business development opportunities across strategic accounts. You’ll shape client-focused solutions, strengthen executive relationships, and identify opportunities to expand account value. Working across business units and functions, you’ll help position integrated offerings and guide major pursuits from pipeline development through close. The position combines strategic account planning, consultative selling, negotiation, forecasting, and commercial leadership. You’ll operate in a matrixed environment where strong business judgment and cross-functional collaboration are essential. This is a client-facing leadership opportunity with significant responsibility for revenue growth and long-term strategic partnerships.
Accountabilities:
- nt Services and internal stakeholders on pricing, margin, deal structure, and commercial strategy.
- Collaborate across business units to identify, position, and win multi-unit opportunities.
- Participate in corporate account teams to strengthen relationships with key clients and expand account value.
- Achieve or exceed annual sales targets for assigned accounts and maintain a strong, qualified opportunity pipeline.
- Establish, grow, and manage relationships with client stakeholders at appropriate decision-making and executive levels.
- Execute client call plans, follow up on leads, and support an established client portfolio.
- Clearly position business capabilities, value propositions, and differentiation to prospective and existing clients.
- Manage pipeline activity, forecasting, territory documentation, and regular sales reporting.
- Lead client presentations, contribute to proposals, host client visits, and support complex sales pursuits through to completion.
- Negotiate directly with major clients while managing expectations to support satisfaction, retention, and mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Provide regular updates to leadership on sales activity, opportunity progression, and commercial performance.
- Translate customer and market insights into actionable growth strategies and measurable commercial results.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant academic qualification; equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered in place of formal education.
- At least 5 years of business development experience within the Clinical Research, Pharmaceutical, or Biotech industry, with direct experience selling services to pharmaceutical and biotech clients.
- At least 4 years of experience engaging directly with mid-level and executive-level decision makers.
- Proven track record of achieving significant sales targets and acquiring, retaining, and expanding strategic client portfolios.
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic selling, negotiation, executive presentations, and financial and business acumen.
- Working knowledge of drug discovery and development principles, with the ability to identify, qualify, and advance commercially relevant opportunities.
- Strong customer relationship management skills, commercial judgment, and executive presence.
- Direct face-to-face negotiation experience with major clients and the ability to influence senior stakeholders toward mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Ability to translate business strategy into measurable commercial results and make sound decisions in complex sales environments.
- Strong organizational agility and demonstrated ability to consistently deliver results within a matrixed organization.
- Excellent communication, presentation, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, with travel of up to 50% based on business needs.
- Flexibility to participate in meetings across multiple time zones and occasionally work extended hours to accommodate client meetings or deliverable timelines.
- Remote, full-time position in the United States.
- Base salary range of $120,000–$140,000, excluding benefits and any applicable bonus, commission, or equity.
