Academic Faculty Physician - Transplant Surgery - Winston Salem, NC

Educational and Teaching

• Participate in transplant-related academic, teaching, and educational conferences;
• Collaboration with the HLA/Immunogenetics Laboratory;
• Research with the Transplant team;
• Continuing education of fellows, house staff, medical students, advanced practice providers, transplant PharmD’s, nurse coordinators and nurses;
• Assist in maintaining quality and performance improvement initiatives including implementation and monitoring of critical care pathways, adverse events, and metrics;
• Assist with implementation, organization, and maintenance of innovative technology under development at the medical center;
• Ensure than clinical research protocols are being appropriately implemented and monitored.

• Attend and participate in transplant-related topics at Transplant Conference;
• Attend and present data/work at national or international meetings;
• Member of Core Research Team that reviews and determines participation in novel studies (both internal and external);
• Review transplant database for genesis of new studies and interpretation of data;
• Assist data coordinators in maintenance and analysis of transplant database;
• Opportunity to collaborate with researchers at the Wake Forest Institute of Regenerative Medicine
• Writing manuscripts for publication.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Participate in all aspects of care of the transplant patient including outpatient clinics, day hospital, inpatient unit, operating room, and intensive care units;
• Participate in maintaining quality and continuity of care of the patients on the transplant service;
• Perform donor and recipient operative procedures including organ retrievals;
• Evaluation of new donors and recipients;
• Daily inpatient Rounds and providing on-call support.
• Donor recovery call is required
